Zymofix reaches scale-up milestone with new manufacturing facility

Zymofix is taking the next step from pilot-scale validation to industrial manufacturing, following a Series A round led by 'First Imagine!' and the selection of Deinze, Belgium, for its new flagship production site.

Zymofix is a Belgian microbial manufacturing company developing new ways to produce beneficial microorganisms at scale. Since its founding in 2022, the company has developed and validated Zyft, a solid-state fermentation platform designed to make microbial production more scalable and cost-efficient. With demand from existing customers now exceeding its current production capacity, Zymofix is preparing for a significant expansion.

A new manufacturing base in Deinze

The company has selected Deinze, Belgium, as the location for a new flagship manufacturing facility following a Series A round led by First Imagine!, with participation from existing investors VP Capital, HTGF, and The Nest Family Office.

The new site represents a €6 million CAPEX investment, financed partly through the equity round and partly through revenue from Zymofix’s existing customer programmes. Production is expected to begin in Q4 2027, with an initial capacity of 300 tonnes per year, enough to treat approximately one million hectares.

Subject to successful commissioning of the first production line, Zymofix plans a further €25 million expansion in 2028 that would increase annual capacity to 2,000 tonnes.

Tackling a bottleneck in microbial manufacturing

Zymofix’s technology addresses a persistent challenge in microbial products: manufacturing microorganisms reliably and economically at the volumes required by industry. Conventional microbial manufacturing often relies on liquid fermentation, but not every microorganism is optimally suited to those conditions. Zyft offers an alternative through next-generation solid-state fermentation, cultivating living microorganisms on solid substrates in a controlled and scalable process.

More than 170 strains across bacteria, fungi, and yeasts have been tested on the platform. Zymofix currently works with more than 15 customers, covering biostimulants, biofertilizers, and biocontrol products, alongside applications in bioremediation and other industrial markets.

Rather than developing its own strains, Zymofix operates as a manufacturing partner, supporting clients across process development, fermentation, formulation, and scale-up.

“Finding a promising microorganism is only part of the challenge. The harder part is manufacturing it consistently, efficiently, and at the volumes the market requires,” says Emile Redant, co-founder and CEO of Zymofix. “We have spent the past four years developing Zyft to fix that problem and, having successfully validated the platform at pilot scale, the new facility in Deinze allows us to take the next step into industrial production.”
