Portfolio expansion with two new investments
We’re welcoming two new companies into the biotope portfolio: EveryCarbon and Wren Bioscience. They operate in very different markets, but both stood out for the same reasons: strong science, ambitious founders, and a clear path toward solving real industrial challenges.
Meet the portfolio newcomers
- EveryCarbon (Germany)
Developing high-performance circular materials through a proprietary biomanufacturing platform. EveryCarbon uses waste-derived feedstocks to produce defined chemical building blocks for advanced material applications, with an initial focus on construction. - Wren Bioscience (Denmark)
Developing rapid bacterial detection for the dairy industry. Its platform can identify thermoresistant bacteria in milk in as little as two minutes, helping producers reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and catch problems earlier.
Both teams joined us through our signature basecamp program and will now continue into biotope’s tailored 18-month incubation journey.
“What gives us confidence is not only the technology of these two startups, but the people behind it. Both teams combine scientific excellence with the maturity to listen, learn, and adapt. They are professional, transparent, open to feedback, and genuinely coachable. Exactly the kind of founders we want to build with.”
Annick Verween, head of biotope
Tailored support
EveryCarbon and Wren Bioscience emerged from a competitive Basecamp cohort where founders pressure-tested their science, business case, market focus, and next milestones with the biotope team and wider network.
Each company now receives €250K in cash investment, around €100K in tailored non-cash support, and access to biotope’s network and VIB’s scientific ecosystem as they work toward seed-readiness.
For EveryCarbon, that next phase is about moving from a promising material to early commercial validation. For Wren Bioscience, the focus is on proving its rapid milk-testing platform with dairy partners and expanding its commercial reach across Europe.
Different technologies, different markets, same goal: turning strong science into solutions that can make a measurable difference for planetary health.
Want in?
Our next basecamp starts November 10th, 2026 (Ghent + online). If you’re building early-stage biotech in planetary health and want €350k in support, and a community that actually rolls up its sleeves, apply now.
