Basecamp #10 is here, bringing together a new group of founders using biology to tackle challenges across agriculture, construction, materials, textiles, food, biosensing, and industrial biotechnology. The shared ambition: using biotechnology to build solutions that support a healthier, more sustainable planet.
Meet the 12 startups joining us next month:
- Agriterna (The Netherlands)
Develops dsRNA-based crop protection products that offer farmers and distributors more sustainable alternatives for controlling harmful weeds and pests - BioFire (The Netherlands)
Develops a novel flame retardant derived from sludge-based biopolymers, creating a more sustainable option for the construction industry - Building With Microbes (Denmark)
Uses a microbial binder to help manufacturers transform demolition waste into low-emission structural building products - Celluol (France)
Develops a novel fermentation process to turn underused crop residues into fuels and chemicals - Hyphera (New Zealand)
Uses fungal chemistry to help engineered wood manufacturers replace formaldehyde resins and extractive additives with a high-performance, drop-in ingredient - Mimbiosis (Germany)
Turns textile waste into sustainable panels for commercial interiors through mycelium-based solid-state fermentation - Post Carbon Lab (UK)
Develops microbial colors made from upcycled CO2 to help textile manufacturers defossilize and decarbonize wet processing - scenti.ai (Belgium)
Develops the next generation of biosensors for real-time biochemical sensing - SearchLight.bio (Belgium)
Helps industrial biotechnology companies tap into microbial diversity through high-throughput, genotype-guided isolation of living strains - SileNATec (Germany)
Develops highly efficient dsRNAs for RNA silencing in crop protection and pest control - Smobya (The Netherlands)
Produces high-performance bacterial nanocellulose from food and agricultural waste, giving manufacturers a circular alternative to fossil-derived and PFAS-based materials - Terra35 (Ireland)
Grows bio-identical vanilla in closed-loop bioreactors, creating a new way to supply real vanilla to flavor houses and consumer goods manufacturers
Ten basecamps in, our appetite for ambitious biotech has only grown. We’re looking forward to seeing where these 12 teams take their ideas next.
