Wren Bioscience
Wren Biosciences develops rapid testing technology to help dairy producers detect contamination and improve milk safety.
Wren Bioscience is bringing bacterial insight in minutes to the dairy industry. The Danish biotech startup is developing a biosensor and digital testing platform that gives dairy processors faster insight into bacterial levels, enabling smarter production decisions, better process control, and improved food safety.
Milk is a particularly complex sample to analyse, as fats and other components can interfere with bacterial detection. Wren’s patent-pending pretreatment technology addresses this challenge, making rapid, reliable testing of real milk samples possible directly on the production floor.
Today, dairy processors often rely on fixed cleaning schedules because bacterial data is not available quickly enough to guide decisions in real time. Wren aims to change that. Faster testing can help processors identify problematic batches earlier, optimize cleaning cycles, reduce unnecessary downtime, and save water, chemicals, energy, and food.
Wren Bioscience’s first focus is industrial dairy production. Longer term, the team sees potential to adapt its platform for human milk banks and other settings where accessible, rapid bacterial testing could make a meaningful difference.
“People have the idea that blood is difficult to work with, but milk is equally complex! Its composition varies widely between samples and even over the course of a day, with fats and other components that can interfere with bacterial detection.”
