Ghent-based B-COS develops nature-inspired crop protection that turns a plant’s own immunity into the first defense. Their precisely defined chitooligosaccharides (COS) prime plant immunity, offering a scalable, cost-effective alternative to broad-spectrum chemical pesticides.
On our technology
Using a patented, microbe-enabled bioprocess, B-COS produces highly defined COS for consistent, field-reliable performance. Formulations, including tailor-made seed coatings, are tuned to specific crops and pathogens, helping reduce pesticide load and slow resistance, while the non-GMO, nature-derived profile supports a regulatory-friendly path to market. Early proof-of-concepts show improved pathogen tolerance across multiple use cases.
Backed by Ghent University and supported by partners including VLAIO, EIT Food, and Deep Tech Pioneers, B-COS is bringing safer, immunity-based protection to the field.
